Sustainability and Biodiversity

A Legacy in the Making

At Lovestone Cottages, we aren’t just “landscaping”—we are regenerating a lost world. When we arrived in 2018, the land was struggling under 120 tonnes of invasive bamboo and weeds. Today, those 2 hectares are a thriving bridge between the Blackall Range and Kondalilla National Parks.

By staying here, you aren’t just a guest; you’re part of a vital wildlife corridor for vulnerable species like the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly and the rare Pink Underwing Moth.

The Transformation (By the Numbers)

It took three years of heavy lifting and “the hard yards” to clear the way for nature to return.

  • 3,000+ native trees planted (and counting!).
  • 2.84 trees planted for every single guest who has stayed with us.
  • 130 tonnes of invasive root balls and weeds removed to let the rainforest breathe.

A Personal Legacy

Want to leave a living mark on the planet? We invite you to join our Tree Planting Program. Sourced from local Barung Landcare, these trees help offset carbon and provide homes for the locals (the furry and feathered kind).

Nature at Home

We don’t just plant trees; we build neighborhoods.
To support our local fauna, we’ve installed:

  • Nesting Boxes: Luxury suites for micro-bats, possums, and owls.
  • Native Bee Hives: Keeping the pollination cycle humming.
  • Hydration Stations: 8 watering holes and 6 frog-friendly ponds.
  • The “Log Hotel”: We leave fallen logs in place to provide five-star housing for reptiles.

A Note on Wildlife Etiquette: We want our animals to stay wild and healthy. Please admire them from a distance and skip the snacks—we’ve planted a buffet of native species specifically for them to eat!

Travel Light Leave a Good Trace

Sustainability at Lovestone is about the “Circular Life.” We turn today’s waste into tomorrow’s soil.

  • Compost to Forest: Your kitchen scraps feed our worm farms, which in turn nourish the trees you plant.
  • Cardboard to Garden: We reuse all cardboard as mulch in our gardens.
  • Bubbles, not Bottles: Our tap water is delicious rain water —skip the plastic and use your own reusable bottles.

How You Can Join the Movement

Check Before You Shop: Check your booking confirmation before you pack—we provide many essentials to save you the plastic-heavy supermarket trip.
Market Prepped: Use the paper bags in your cottage for your local market hauls.

Compost Like a Pro: Use the benchtop bin for food scraps—our worms (and trees) will thank you.

The Mother Fig

Imagine, waking to the symphony of the Australian King Parrot as it gracefully punctuates the morning mist, while the hypnotic drone of cicadas cascade rhythmically through the depths of the ancient rainforest canopy.

Nestled within the embrace of a five-acre rainforest, Lovestone Cottages beckon with an irresistible allure. Here, amidst the captivating Blackall Range, lies a sanctuary of seclusion. Standing as a formidable guardian of this enchanting realm, is a 300-year-old White Fig tree that whispers ancient tales from a time when the Blackall Range flourished with endemic native species.

Where nature leads, we follow

At Lovestone Cottages, the rainforest is not just a setting — it is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to preserving and nurturing the natural beauty of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, supporting the delicate ecosystems that surround us.

From protecting native flora and encouraging wildlife habitats, to working with local producers and using thoughtfully sourced products, our approach is guided by care, respect, and long-term sustainability.

Our property is part of a living landscape — home to birds, butterflies, and ancient trees — and we see ourselves as custodians of this environment. Every stay contributes to the ongoing protection and regeneration of this unique pocket of the hinterland.
